Nicholls of Parkgate has been in the ice cream business for 88 years! Nestled in the scenic town of Parkgate, with views stretching across to North Wales, this family-run business has delighted generations with its dedication to quality and flavour. Offering 16 regular flavours alongside a variety of special “flavours of the day”, Nicholls can produce up to 30 unique flavours, continuing their proud tradition of excellence.

At the heart of Nicholls is Bill, who has dedicated 37 years to the company. About 20 years ago, Bill met Steve of Machinery World, a meeting that would prove invaluable over the decades.

Bill speaks highly of Steve, describing him as “exceptionally knowledgeable about ice cream machines” and someone who is always available to help when needed.

Seamless Upgrades with Machinery World

Recently, Nicholls decided it was time to upgrade their equipment. Bill chose to part-exchange their reliable but ageing 22-year-old Cattabriga machine with Machinery World. The process was seamless, allowing Machinery World to refurbish the old machine and eliminating the hassle for Nicholls to find a buyer themselves. Bill appreciated how straightforward the transaction was, reflecting the trust built through years of experience.

The chosen replacement? A state-of-the-art Cattabriga PSK 185 Pro machine, which has transformed operations at Nicholls. The increased capacity means Bill can produce larger batches more efficiently, while the flexibility to make smaller batches when needed ensures minimal waste.

“The increased output is fantastic,” Bill shared, but he also like being able to make just half or a quarter batch if required. The only downside is there’s more to clean now – he joked.

Nicchols benefits from bi-annual servicing provided by their skilled engineer, Christopher Wilson, ensuring their equipment stays in perfect working order. Bill praised the quick delivery of the new machine and the peace of mind that comes with regular maintenance from such a reliable team.
