The Combination of Great Ingredients and Great Machinery: A Recipe for Success

A Legacy of Excellence – The History of Morelli’s

Morelli’s has been delighting customers for over a century, with its roots tracing back to the early 1900s in Casalattico, Italy. Seeking better opportunities, members of the Morelli family emigrated, with Peter Morelli first working as a glassblower in Paris and London before joining his brother Giuseppe (“Joe”) in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, where Joe had opened a café. In 1911, Peter set up his own shop in Coleraine’s Stone Row, selling fish and chips, confectionery, tobacco, and, most importantly, ice cream. Recognising the growing love for their handcrafted ice cream, the family expanded their business, culminating in the opening of ‘The Ice Palace’ in Portstewart, which became a beloved destination.

In 1925, Peter invited his nephew Angelo from Italy to join the business. Angelo quickly took to the trade, purchasing the Portstewart shop in 1928 and dedicating himself to perfecting the art of ice cream making. He and his wife, Anastasia, grew the business while raising their three sons, Nino, Corrado, and Guido. Despite the hardships of World War II, including Angelo’s internment and the family’s separation, their passion for ice cream never wavered. After the war, Morelli’s expanded across the Causeway Coast, becoming a household name in Northern Ireland. Today, five generations later, Morelli’s continues to serve award-winning flavours, keeping the family’s tradition alive by using only the finest ingredients to create the same creamy, indulgent ice cream that has been loved for generations.

What Makes Morelli’s a Champion of Champions?

Morelli’s unwavering commitment to excellence has solidified its status as a champion in the ice cream industry. Their product is renowned for its consistency, and the quality of their dairy ingredients is second to none.

Arnaldo puts it best:

“With the combination of great quality dairy ingredients, ROKK Processing’s fantastic machinery and our excellent production team, it’s lovely that our passion for making great tasting ice cream has been recognised.”

This dedication to quality is complemented by their collaboration with ROKK Processing, whose state-of-the-art machinery ensures precision and efficiency in production.

A Partnership Built on Trust and Respect

The relationship between Morelli’s and ROKK Processing spans over two decades, marked by mutual respect, trust, and a shared passion for innovation.

“We have always been delighted with the service we receive from ROKK Processing. There’s a mutual respect and trust from one family business to another, which has helped establish a strong rapport.”

In 2022, this collaboration reached a new milestone with the introduction of additional, new ROKK Processing equipment, further enhancing Morelli’s production capabilities.

Morelli’s also utilises ROKK Processing’s ice cream machinery as an essential part of their production line. These machines allow them to produce ice cream at higher volumes without compromising the quality they are known for. ROKK Processing’s equipment features advanced systems that ensure a continuous and smooth flow of production, while maintaining the perfect texture and consistency in every batch. Designed for both high production capacity and energy efficiency, these machines offer the ideal solution for Morelli’s growing demand.

The camaraderie between the teams exemplifies the essence of a family business relationship, contributing to the continued success of Morelli’s Ice Cream.

With a combination of top-tier ingredients, expert production, and cutting-edge machinery from ROKK Processing, Morelli’s continues to set the standard for excellence in the ice cream industry.

Confidence, Growth, and Opportunity: A Conversation with Claudia

Confidence, Growth, and Opportunity: A Conversation with Claudia

Sometimes, the best career paths are the ones we don’t plan for. That was certainly the case for Claudia, whose journey into the machinery and engineering industry began by chance. With two young children, she was searching for a role that would fit around her family life when she came across a part-time position as a PA at Machinery World. What started as a practical decision soon turned into a career she couldn’t imagine leaving.

Passion & Inspiration

One of the aspects Claudia enjoys most about her work is the opportunity to use her multilingual skills daily. Being able to communicate in multiple languages has opened doors to exciting experiences, particularly when it comes to international travel.

“I have the opportunity to travel and visit the most amazing food exhibitions,” she says. “It’s fantastic.”

When asked about the most exciting project she’s worked on, she finds it impossible to choose just one.

“I find all projects exciting—small or big. Concluding and finalising a deal is always very rewarding.”

Career & Growth

Since stepping into the industry, Claudia has worn many hats at Machinery World. Starting as a PA, she then took on roles as a transport coordinator and later as a buyer.

“I have had the opportunity to work in several departments,” she explains. “I like to think that in the last few years, I have established my name in the second-hand machinery business.”

Through these experiences, she has developed a skill she values above all others: patience.

“Patience, patience, and patience,” she says with a smile.

Working in a male-dominated field has also shaped her confidence and resilience.

“I have always been a confident woman, but gaining technical knowledge in this industry has boosted my can-do attitude even further.”

Empowerment & Leadership

For young women considering a career in the machinery or engineering field, Claudia has one key piece of advice:

“Confidence is the key! Be open-minded and confident. If you like the technical, industrial world… be confident and go for it!”

She credits her own career growth to a simple but powerful lesson she learned early on.

“When I first started working, my line manager told me, ‘Don’t ever be scared of any opportunity that comes your way.’ I’ve kept that alive in my mind ever since.”

Her role requires self-motivation, something she fuels by actively seeking out opportunities.

“I have to generate my own work, fishing for opportunities on a daily basis. That’s what keeps me motivated,” she says. “I’m also part of a fantastic team at Machinery World. We all have different areas of expertise, and we share our knowledge in team meetings, which is really valuable.”

Workplace & Team Dynamics

For Claudia, one of the best parts of working at Machinery World is the office atmosphere.

“It’s kind and friendly. Plus, I can go for a country walk during my lunch break—it’s invigorating.”

She also values the shared sense of purpose among her colleagues.

“Personally, I like the fact that we all have shared values. It’s important for me to work in an environment I can identify with.”

Celebrating Success

After nearly 14 years with Machinery World, Claudia sees her long tenure as one of her proudest achievements.

“I love the idea of many more years to come!” she says.

Looking ahead, it’s the unknown possibilities that excite her the most.

“Not knowing what opportunity might be waiting for me around the corner—that’s what keeps it exciting.”

And when success comes—whether it’s hers or a colleague’s—there’s only one way to mark the occasion.

“Party time!” she laughs.

With a career shaped by confidence, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities, Claudia’s story is proof that sometimes, the best journeys begin by accident.

Empowered in Engineering: A Conversation with Esther

Empowered in Engineering: A Conversation with Esther

For many, a career in machinery and engineering is a lifelong goal—but for Esther, it wasn’t originally part of the plan. What started as a part-time job soon turned into a passion, as she found herself captivated by the industry’s niche nature and the strong bonds she formed with colleagues.

“It wasn’t something I ever saw myself doing,” she admits. “But after working here for a while, I grew really fond of it. It’s such a unique industry, and that made it exciting for me.”

Finding Passion in a Niche Industry

One of the things she loves most about her role is the variety it brings. No two customers are the same, and every day presents something new to tackle.

“It never feels repetitive. There’s always something different happening, whether it’s a new project, a new client, or a fresh challenge to solve,” she explains.

But if she had to pick the most exciting project she’s worked on so far, it would undoubtedly be the company’s rebrand from Dairy Bits to Parts Station.

“Overseeing such a huge transition was incredible. It was about more than just a name change—it was about positioning ourselves for future growth. Seeing that transformation unfold was so rewarding.”

Growth, Confidence, and Career Evolution

Since stepping into the industry, Esther has experienced significant personal and professional growth.

“I’ve learnt so much, not just in terms of industry knowledge but also in my own development. My confidence and independence in my role have grown tremendously. That’s why I decided to take on the Chartered Management degree alongside my job—I want to keep pushing myself to develop further.”

One of the skills she’s most proud of is her ability to engage with people—especially in situations where she’s not an expert.

“I was never particularly shy, but discussing topics I wasn’t well-versed in used to be intimidating. Over time, I’ve built confidence in having those conversations, and that’s been a huge step for me.”

Beyond her own development, she’s also witnessed how working in this industry has shaped her approach to challenges. Whether at work, in university, or in everyday life, the resilience she’s built has carried over into all aspects of her journey.

Breaking Barriers and Leading with Confidence

Working in a traditionally male-dominated field can come with its challenges, but for Esther, it’s been a motivating force rather than a setback.

“It can be tough, especially when you’re surrounded by people with years of experience. But I’ve found that everyone is so supportive and willing to help. My colleagues genuinely want me to succeed, and that’s made all the difference.”

The best career advice she’s ever received? “Be a fighter.”

“There will always be difficult customers and tough situations, but you just have to push through and keep doing your best,” she says.

A Team-Driven Workplace Culture

One of the standout aspects of working at Machinery World, she notes, is the close-knit team dynamic.

“I love working in a small business because there’s such a personal touch. We all know each other well, and we work together in a way that really makes a difference. When you’re part of a smaller team, you can see the impact of your own contributions, and that’s so rewarding.”

The workplace culture, in a word? “Positive.”

“Everyone here is supportive. It’s such a great environment where people genuinely want to see each other succeed.”

And if there’s one surprising thing about the industry that most people wouldn’t expect, it’s how many companies are family-run.

“A lot of businesses in this industry have been passed down through generations. There’s something really special about that—it gives the industry a real sense of heritage and continuity.”

Celebrating Success and Looking Ahead

Reflecting on her proudest achievement so far, she points to the transformation of Parts Station.

“We’ve changed so much as a company. I started by organising the stores, and now we’ve expanded, rebranded, and set ourselves up for future growth. Seeing that evolution has been amazing.”

As for what excites her most about the industry’s future?

“It’s never going to be a dying industry. There’s always innovation happening, and I love that we get to grow alongside it.”

And when success comes—whether personal or shared with her colleagues—there’s always a way to celebrate.

“Usually with a cocktail!” she laughs. “But honestly, everyone here is always so ready to congratulate each other. It’s such a positive, uplifting environment.”

With a strong passion for her work, a drive for continuous learning, and an unwavering enthusiasm for the industry, Esther is not just thriving in her role—she’s shaping the future of engineering in her own unique way.
